Sideline Suggestions R.I.C.E.

 SIDELINE Suggestions:

  • Have a cooler with ice and bags in it specifically for injuries.
  • Always have plenty of water to drink, and allow and encourage frequent water breaks.
  • NEVER suggest that the individual put heat on an acute injury, always suggest that the individual seek physician counseling on injuries that persist longer than a day or two.
  • REMEMBER R.I.C.E. - the acronym for acute injury management!

R = rest
I = ice
C = compression
E = elevation

Remember to keep latex gloves and gauze pads in your first aid kit!

The quickest way to stop bleeding is with direct pressure in combination with elevating the injured area above the heart whenever possible.

DO NOT have an individual lean his or her head back with a bloody nose. Have the individual keep his or her head level and place direct pressure over the bridge of the nose.
